‘3John 1:3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. ‘
Christians must strive to stand with truth. Truth is so rare in the world today and only a few people remain standing with the truth. The Baganda have a saying ‘Amazima Bugaga.’ Literary meaning ‘being truthful is wealth. Such idioms point to the essence of truth in our society.
The Apostle John while writing his 3rd letter, recognised that Gaius had the truth in him and also walked in truth. We have to stand and walk in the truth no matter the circumstance.
As a lawyer your integrity will be tested always, it may be a clerk asking for money to have your matter fixed, someone may come with a bribe to get a judicial officer give a decision in their favour, always stand in the truth so that you can serve God with a pure heart.
I am challenged by King Hezekiah’s life of faith, in 2 Kings 20:3 he reminded God as follows ‘I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight.’ He lived a life of truth and had the confidence to remind God about it. I Just wonder whether we can have such confidence today.
There is a way of truth which is the pattern of the Gospel that we have to walk in. In Psalms 84:11 ‘For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. ‘ Once you walk uprightly Grace and glory becomes your portion and nothing is withheld from you by God our father.
