The Spirit of Grace.

The Spirit of Grace.

Zecharia 12:10 ‘And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.’

The Holy Spirit is referred to as the Spirit of Grace. He is the author and the father of all graces.

The Holy Spirit of God is not merely referred to as the Spirit of Grace, because he is good and gracious, and loving to us his people, and is of grace given unto us; but because he is the author of all grace in us; of gracious convictions, and spiritual illuminations; of quickening, regenerating, converting, and sanctifying grace; and of all particular graces, as faith, hope, love, fear of God, repentance, humility, joy, peace, meekness, patience, longsuffering and self-denial.

The Holy Spirit is as well referred to as the father of Grace because he is the revealer, applier, and witnesser of all the blessings of grace unto us:

He is as well called the “Spirit of supplications”; because he inspires us his people to pray, shows us our wants, and stirs us to pray; enlarges our hearts, puts words into our mouth; gives faith, fervency, and freedom, and encourages us to come to God as our Father, and makes intercession for us, according to the will of God: pouring all these blessings upon us denotes the abundance and freeness of his grace;

These blessings were declared by God in Isaiah 44: 3 ‘For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring.’

We thank God for the Spirit of Grace upon us in this dispensation of the Church of Christ.

God’s Blessings.
