Legal Aid

Since 2005, UCLF has supported indigent persons to access justice in the districts of Kampala, Gulu, Wakiso, Mukono, Masaka, Kasese, Moyo, Gulu, Kayunga and Buikwe districts through four main programmes; Criminal Public Defence Programme, Civil Legal Aid Programme, Legal education and Paralegal Services Programme.

Since 2005 when UCLF was registered as a Non-Governmental organization over 240,000 persons have benefited from UCLF’s numerous legal aid interventions.

UCLF continues to use a rights based approach in order to address the underlying causes of injustices, including patriarchy, poverty and social exclusion. We also support the Government of Uganda as the primary duty bearer to uphold its responsibility to protect and promote human rights and access to justice through establishing and reinforcing sustainable and effective legal and structural mechanisms.
